There is something to be said about maturity.
There is something to be said about hard work.
There is something to be said about leadership and tradition.
Texas Longhorn Colt McCoy has all of these qualities.
Yet, year after year the Heisman voters look over McCoy. This year there is no other clear winner, but McCoy.
The reasons why the others do not hold up in my book. Florida Quarterback Tim Tebow is an amazing quarterback with great morals and skill. He was the first sophomore to ever take home a Heisman. This year he just did not live up to expectations on the field. He suffered from an injury as well as just struggled and lost national championship hopes last week with the loss to Alabama which included an interception at the end to do away with all hope.
Runningback Mark Ingram is the favorite to win this season. If history repeats itself and McCoy is once again overlooked, then yes Ingram will take home the Heisman. Although, I do not think he deserves it. I think he is still young. I watched him against Auburn and the ball was not moved at all. Last week, he did perform well against Tebow, but that only proves he deserves it more then Tebow. Ingram is a sophomore. I think he needs to develop his skills a little more before just handing over the Heisman.
Runningback Toby Gerhart. Who? Lets be honest. Has anyone heard of this guy outside of Stanford? I think every few years we have to have a Stanford nominee. If the guy is good enough for a Heisman, why is he not playing in the championship game?
Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. I am sure that is the last person McCoy wants to compete with after last week. Suh is the only defensive nominee and would only be the second to take home the trophy. Not to cause issues, but there is a reason for that. Offensive nominees have to perform better-there is more competition as well as more pressure then on defense. Plus, in the end, the Longhorns won.
