Texas cities secured nine of the top 16 spots on this year's Milken Institute/Greenstreet Real Estate Partners Best-Performing Cities Index, which ranks U.S. metros based on their ability to create and sustain jobs.
In fact Texas took home the first two spots with Austin in number one and Ft. Hood in number two. The McAllen area and Houston area took the fourth and fifth places in the index. San Antonio, Ft. Worth and Dallas area took the 11, 12 and 13 spots followed by El Paso at 14 and Corpus Christi at 16.
Sorry Texas pride runs deep in me. If I was allowed to put bumper stickers on my car, I would definitely have the one that says, "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could."
Texas seems to be fairing better because of its industries. Unlike New York that is suffering major loss because it is mainly people working in the finance industry, Texas has a diverse offerings across the state.
Texans work in the oil, gas, and alternative energy industries. And Austin is known for its strong tech industry
Governor Rick Perry recently stated at a dinner that job creation is a top priority. As a result of the state's pro-business environment, Texas was one of 10 states that showed positive job creation numbers in 2008, he said. More than half of the jobs created in the U.S. landed in Texas, the governor said.
And every day about 1,000 people are moving to Texas seeking jobs, he said.
Did you catch that? That is a huge number of people moving into the state every day.
"People know Texas is a place where they can find a job," Perry said. "And it's a place where they can have a Texan as a next-door neighbor."
Many have said that we will just be the last to go through the recession here in Texan and the last to come out of the recession. I don't think that is the case. I think the numbers show we are holding steady and will continue to offer security to those coming into the state.

If you are looking for a great place to live, Texas offers many opportunities and areas to fit every style of life. We chose to move here because of the many opportunities the Texas life offered for our kids that we just could not find in the small town in Arkansas I grew up in. I have never regretted the decision to move to Texas.

Top-level comments on this article: (2 total)Don't be too eager to admonish Texas just yet Asher. The main reason for their prosperity is cheap "illegal" immigration labor and overall living cost....Look at these statistics put out by FAIR."Texas’s population increased by 23.3 percent between 1990 and 2000, and by 12.2 percent between 2000 and 2006, bringing Texas’s total population to approximately 24 million.""In 2006 Texas was the 5th fastest growing state in the United States, and accounted for the highest increase in population size among any state.""Approximately 26.2 percent of the total population increase between 2000 and 2006 in Texas was directly attributable to "IMMIGRANTS.""FAIR estimates the illegal alien population in 2005 at 1,618,000, which ranks 2nd in the U.S. for the FAIR estimate. This number is 55% above the U.S. government estimate of 1,041,000 in 2000, and 269% above the 1990 estimate of 438,000.""According to an estimate of the Pew Hispanic Center, in 2005 there were an estimated 1,400,000 to 1,600,000 illegal aliens living in Texas. This estimate ranks 2nd among illegal alien populations in the United States for the PEW estimate.""FAIR estimates in 2004 that the taxpayers of Texas spent $3949 million per year on illegal aliens and their children in public schools."
*** What normal American person/family could get a good education on $3000 a YEAR? But to an illegal alien that looks like a dream come true!*** It's apparent many Texans have been replaced by the lower wage uneducated illegals, thus creating a better economy for any company willing to move to Texas seeking to pay lower wages to workers, while also providing little or no insurance to them.
I don't know why I wrote "admonish." I meant to say "hail."
