Creative Commons is the anti-Associated Press when it comes to the issue of copyright.

Creative Commons was founded in 2001 as a non-profit organization whose goal is to increase creativity by opening up the rights of the creator.

Why did you become a writer? Did you want your work to be shared with the world?  Would you be insulted if someone took your work and shared it with others? If they did share, what restrictions would you want set?

Honestly, when I write I never really think about these issues. It was only a few months ago that it clicked that people actually read what I write. I never took the target audience in mind. Bad move for a writer.

There are so many creative artist these days from photographers, to illustrators, etc. and with the internet, work can be distributed much more freely. Creative Commons steps in and makes it easier to handle all of those issues that come up with having the technology of the internet.

It allows artists like us the opportunity to decide if we want to share our work through free creative licenses. Building on the belief that in a community we can build on one another's work. I am sharing their video explaining their purpose. I encourage you to check out their website for further videos and information as well.
