May is traditionally known as the month of graduations. I know this because I already have received five invitations in the mail. It of course has sent me in a frenzy looking for gifts that convey how special the graduate is as well as being practical.

Here are a few gift ideas that will delight every graduate on your list.

The Jock

We all have those jocks in our life that seem to have been born with some sort of athletic equipment in their hands. Graduation can be a sad time for them as they often times have to say goodbye to teammates they have known since childhood.

Some great gift ideas are ones that preserve those memories such as digital cameras, photo albums, already made scrapbooks, team photos, etc. If the one you love is going on to playing sports in college, you may opt for a gift card to a sporting good store or check out signed autographs of famous athletes. Another fun gift could be tickets for the jock to go see a local sporting event with friends. Be sure to include a jersey of the team!

The Artist

Artists seem to appreciate the small details in life. Give them a trip to the beach, a yearly membership to the local museum or a overnight trip to ignite some inspiration. You can also look into getting gift cards to a popular art store in town or visit a gallery for a painting that commemorates the occasion. Get a custom art smock made complete with their name embroidered on it. Other ideas include: sketch books, journals and art supplies such as pens, pencils, paper, etc.

The Geek

Anything that was invented in the last year will excite the geek. Look for laptops, iPhones, iPods, organizational or practical stuff. You can get them a gift card to Best buy, Apple or any kind of movie rental place. Geeks love technology, movies made with technology, shirts that only Geeks get. Check out thinkgeek.com as well for more gift ideas.

The Musician

All those music people in our lives. If you can afford a new instrument, amp or any other music supply, take the graduate with you to the local music store. Musicians tend to be picky about what they use. Other gifts include sheet music to artists that your musician likes, customized music paper so they can write their own music or even gift cards to iTunes.

Prom Queen

The great thing about buying for girl graduates is the endless possibilities. You can get a special piece of jewelry to commemorate the event. It can be ear rings in her school colors, a locket with a family picture, a bracelet with charms symbolizing her high school years, etc. Other fun gifts for the graduates who like pampering is pedicures, manicures, girls nights out, trips to the spa, trips to the beach, etc.

These are just a few suggestions. Get to know your graduates to find out their needs. Find out if they are going on to college and if so, buy items to help them get settled. Get creative and if all else fails, give cash. What high school graduate doesn't like cash?
