With the economy down the drain, many Americans are looking to spending vacation at home this summer. Why not? It is economical and done correctly, it can be just like going on a real vacation.

Here are a few tips for a fun economical summer vacation at home.

Develop a vacation mindset
If you have the time off of work or school, don't let the home life and stresses consume your vacation. Set definite days as vacation days then take away distractions.

Turn off the electronic devices
Take a break from technology. It is the link to an outside world that should be eliminated during vacations. Turn off the cell phones, computers, etc. and enjoy the peace and quiet of the lack of electronic hum.

Now for the fun stuff
Invite friends from out of town to stay with you. As you play guide, you will be able to hit attractions that you probably won't have seen otherwise. Plus you will remember what it was like to do it the first time.

Try something new
Often times, we stick to the same restaurants, hangouts, etc. This stay at home vacation can be a time to try something new. Go to an antique show, a new hit restaurant or club, an exhibit, etc. Check out city and county websites to see what events they are having at their local parks or in the area.

Splurge on season passes
Buying season passes to an attraction can provide endless entertainments at a considerably reduced cost. Many times, if you purchase the pass before the busy time, you get extra freebies. Have a favorite attraction? Look into the pass for the vacation to never end.

Go mid-week
Traditionally the middle of the week is the best time to visit attractions. Weekends tend to be busier so you miss the major crowds. As for the week, amusement parks sometimes also have reduced fees.

Get creative this summer. Check out the local pool and pack a picnic. Rediscover your hometown. You might be surprised how fun it can be to stay home and well as how much money you save in the process.
