Camping with kids can be such an adventure. Everything is new and appealing as kids explore the outside world and find that there is more to the world then just video games and movies.

Kids will be amazed watching the campfire. They return to little cave men as their eyes light up when the fire is started. They love watching it get lit and even helping to an extent. One way to allow them to be involved is with cooking.

Cooking over an open fire can be challenging. There are some great recipes in which the kids can be involved. Here are a few campfire treats that will delight even the pickiest eaters.

Chocolate Surprise
Kids love chocolate so name any treat with the word, "chocolate" and you will have them lining up to help. Before the kids get involved, take and cut a little wedge in the top of a banana. Leave it in its peel. It should look like a boat. Allow the kids to fill their banana boat with chocolate chips and mini marshmallows. Wrap in foil and set by the fire to warm up and melt. It makes a great mushy goodness that will make you want more and more.

Popcorn
Remember the old days when you would pop popcorn on the stove. Be sure and stock up on some Jiffy Pop in the aluminum pan. Place over the fire using a stick to hold it on or tongs, because the handle will get hot. The kids will love watching it pop into a big ball. You can even bring popcorn toppings.

Old-fashioned Smores
What is a camping trip without Smores? Allow the kids to roast their own marshmallows as well as place the chocolate bars on the graham crackers. You can also add peanut butter on the graham cracker to add a new kick. You can also place marshmallows, chocolate inside a tortilla and wrap with foil to melt by the fire. It is a Smore without the mess.

Donuts
This is a fun, messy treat. Take biscuit dough and drop in hot grease over the campfire or propane stove. Allow the kids to poke a hole in the fried biscuit and squirt honey or icing inside, yum!

These are a few suggestions. Camping is such a fun time that really works up an appetite for the kids! Feel free to leave your own recipes or family traditions from your camping trips.
