Is Your Period Causing You To Shop?

A new study out of Great Britain is giving us women another excuse to shop and one more thing to blame on our period.

The study found that women were more likely to go on a shopping spree and showcase impulse buying tendencies during the ten days leading up to their period.

Almost two-thirds of the women studied admitted impulse buying and overspending during the menstrual cycle.

According to the BBC News, Professor Pine, of the University of Hertfordshire, said: "Spending was less controlled, more impulsive and more excessive for women."

"The spending behavior tends to be a reaction to intense emotions. They are feeling stressed or depressed and are more likely to go shopping to cheer themselves up and using it to regulate their emotions."

Can I get an Amen?!? Shopping does make you feel good, even if it is buying that gallon of your favorite ice cream. Did we need a study to tell us this?

Besides the hormonal changes leading to intense emotions, women may be spending money on items to make them feel more attractive during this time period.

I can't tell you how many tubes of lip sticks sit in my bathroom used only once from me doing impulse buying. Although, I am not sure they were bought during that time of the month, but at least now I have an excuse to tell my husband.

It has always been funny to me how much we as women can get away with because of our period. In Texas, women have been known to get off in a court of law for killing their husbands and claiming PMS.

I have personally used it as an excuse to eat Double dipped chocolate peanuts before. But it is true to some extent. As women, we do have the honor of enjoying the emotional rollercoaster once a month and then we feel regret afterwards as we try to repair the damage.
So what is the solution? Is it bad to shop during this time? Should you freeze your money during this time of the month?

I think you should check your motives whenever you shop no matter the time of the month. Then budget to allow yourself one or two impulse items under a certain amount.

Is it so bad to use shopping as a way to calm the hormones?
