The new one cup coffee makers are hitting consumers by storm. The great thing about the Tassimo Hot Beverage System is that it can make everything from hot cocoa to teas to cappucinos to coffee. It provides endless entertainment for guests as well.
For those unfamiliar with the product, it is a system in which a pod filled with coffee, cappucino makings, etc. is placed at top. The consumer then places a cup underneath. The Tassimo reads the barcode on the top of the discs in order to know how much hot water to mix, the temperature of the water and the brewing time.
Over Christmas, we were fortunate to stay at a place that had a Tassimo. The benefit was that every member of the family could have the type of coffee they wanted in under a minute. My son could have hot cocoa. I could have Starbucks and my hubby could have his cappucino. It was amazing!
There are other type machines out that use this type of system. One such machine is the Keurig. Their have been several complaints about the Keurig ranging from smelling like burnt plastic to grounds in the coffee to the expense of the coffee discs. I would suggest going with name brand because I have heard several complaints about other machines.
The Tassimo discs are reasonable in cost comparably to what you would spend for high-quality coffee. The issues I see is that certain stores only sell certain brands. Tassimo has teamed up with companies such as Starbucks and Maxwell House, but seldom can you buy all the brands at one store. Each store has contracted out with certain companies. On that note, not all grocery stores sell the Tassimo discs so it may mean an extra stop during your normal shopping.
You will also need to replace a hot water filter about every three months. It runs about $8. The discs cost anywhere from $6 to $11. The system itself cost between $!00 to $140 depending on the model.
What I found when using the machine is that the easiness of it allows for everyone to get the drink they want when they want it.
I was a little hesitant since I tend to make a whole pot of coffee each day. The thought of one cup was kind of discerning. It grows on you. The quickness of the brew makes it unnoticeable. You do not have to worry about a pot of coffee just sitting for a large portion of the day and having to be reheated. It is fast. Plus you can have different types and flavors each time.
The cost is a little more then a typical pot, but just having it for a day made it so worth it. It is fun to use. It is space efficient. It is more cost efficient in the long run because you are not wasting coffee.
Coffee lovers should definitely look into this machine. Even this coffee snob, found it to be the perfect gift! Everyone in my family has asked for one and those who have received it has had no complaints. I would suggest going with name brand because I have heard several complaints about other machines.
One final note, you can order straight from the Tassimo website, tassimo.com. I have heard that shipping does take some time so if you want immediate satisfaction, go to your local Target.

Top-level comments on this article: (2 total)The machine is fine. The problem is getting any but the most basic types of coffee. Stores typically have 1 or 2 types and ordering from Tassimo takes up to 3 weeks. I have an order I placed on June 26 and they tell me it will be shipped on Friday July 10. I would never buy another one of these machines.
A agree with the previous poster. Machine works fine and the coffee is good, problem is finding the coffee to put in it. Poor selections in stores, Tassimo no longer carries the Starbucks brand, and ordering through their website is slow and painful. If anyone is interested in a single brew machine, my recommendation would be to purchase a Keurig. I get jealous every time I see their large selection in stores and I am deciding between Maxwell house and uh, oh yeah Maxwell house.
