Tips For A Romantic Getaway In Houston On A Budget

My husband and I recently celebrated our tenth anniversary. With the economy declining everyday, celebrating had to be done on a tight budget.

We are blessed to live near the city of Houston which offers several opportunities for romantic getaways and dates.

Here are a few suggestions to make an unforgettable romantic night.

Book a hotel

Several hotels across the city offer romance packages. There are a few reasonable priced hotels around the Galleria area. One such hotel is the Hotel Indigo. It offers a wonderful room at a great price. When we stayed, we did not do the romance package because the room and being away from the kids provided enough romance. We did pack our own wine and goodies. The romance packages offer dessert, coffee or wine. The cost for the room is the cheapest we found in the area at $109. The hotel is within walking distance to the Galleria Mall as well as offers an amazing room for those just wanting to stay in. It has a wonderful walk-in shower and hard wood floors that makes it look extra clean. I encourage you to check out the smaller hotels in this area for the best prices.

Wall of Water

The Wall of Water is located at the Williams Tower in the Galleria area. It is a free spot that has become a romantic destination for couples. Pack a picnic basket and blanket and enjoy a romantic lunch with the relaxing sounds of rushing water in the background. The amazing wall of water drops thousands of gallons 64 feet every minute. It is a popular wedding spot for a reason!

The Galleria

The mall features several upscale stores to browse. As a couple, spend time dreaming and shopping at the unique stores. Go ice skating and enjoy holding hands on the ice. Get dessert or eat lunch in the food court. During the holidays, have someone take your picture in front of the Christmas decorations.

Go Downtown

The downtown area offers a unique blend of arts and business entertainment. Visit the New Discovery Green Park and hear a concert or race boats. Most activities are free and the park offers a variety of entertainment. Play carnival type games at the Aquarium or tour Minute Maid Park if you love baseball. It is a budget friendly place. Visit the Main Street Square Water Fountains. Go on the Art Deco Walking Tour. For more information on downtown Houston entertainment, visit houstondowntown.com

Visit The Woodlands

The Woodlands Mall and Town Center has become a popular place for couples. Probably the most romantic activity on a budget is to go on a boat ride. The boat can be docked at the mall and only costs $4 for an all-day pass. The boat ride comes complete with a historical tour of the area. Along the ride, notice the fountains that have also become a popular attraction. During the night time, the area can provide a romantic atmosphere for a walk at the river is lit up for romance.

These are just a few romantic destinations around town. I hope you have a great date filled with romance and wonder.

Going to 2 malls and parks the size of a city block do not sound romantic to me.
