Rumors are abound in the apple junkie world as Apple filed for a new patent that would revolutionize use of IPhones and IPods all over. No longer would battery chargers be necessary. No, Steve Jobs crew would have gone once again where no one has gone before. The London Times is reporting along with every other speculator in the world that Apple has filed a patent for a technology which would enable a layer of solar cells to be inserted under a touch-sensitive screen of the sort used in the iPhone.
In the past, there was never enough space for portable devices to be truly portable because of the lack of room for the solar panels. Apple's patent would get around the problem by stacking the solar cells underneath both the touch-sensitive screen and the LCD. That would potentially allow the full 2.4-inch by 4.5-inch glass face of the iPhone to operate as a solar panel.
According to the Times, the existing IPhone battery gives about eight hours of talk time and seven hours of video, but once a faster, 3G version is released, the device will become even more power-hungry.
I can't imagine the hours that this technology could add to the talk time, etc. this would be awesome to have for trips, long stints away from the office on business, the possibilities are endless.
I love how far our technology has come that not only can we interact with people all over the world in a matter of seconds, from any location and now the possibility to do it with no worry of time constraints.
Thanks Apple for continuing to push the envelope further into the future!
